Douglas Hackney

Douglas Hackney is an award winning speaker and author, and is president of Enterprise Group Ltd., a consulting company specializing in business intelligence (BI). Enterprise Group Ltd. helps organizations understand, plan, design, implement and sustain BI systems to better manage and use business information. In addition, Mr. Hackney provides investor opportunity evaluation, entrepreneur mentoring, technology analysis, market positioning, marketing and management consulting services for startups and established companies.
 

Mr. Hackney is a recognized industry leader, and has regularly served as a voice of his industries, has chaired and keynoted industry conferences worldwide, and is particularly noted for his pragmatic and vendor independent perspective.
 

Mr. Hackney has provided investor opportunity evaluation, entrepreneur mentoring, technology analysis, market positioning, marketing and management consulting services to a wide variety of startups and industry leaders including Microsoft, SAP, Broadbase, Informatica, Prism Solutions, Arbor (now Hyperion), Information Advantage (now CA), EMC, Brio, Epiphany, Maximal, Andyne, Carleton (now Oracle), AppsCo, CorVu, D2K, IBI, ID Centric, Intellidex, Red Brick, Sagent, Sqribe, Brio, Synera, Teleran, and VIT.

 

Mr. Hackney is the author of the national book award winning How the World Works, as well as Data Marts: Understanding and Implementing Successful Data Marts and is co-author of Impossible Data Warehousing Situations and Solutions from the Experts. He has served as executive editor, contributing editor and writer of monthly columns for industry and general interest periodicals and is quoted often in industry and general interest publications such as eWeek, Computerworld, Enterprise Systems Journal, Forbes, etc.
 

Mr. Hackney is a frequent and highly rated speaker at international conferences, including Entrepreneur, Business Management, Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) conferences. He also speaks at private and public events, industry user conferences, educational events, product seminars and other events around the globe. Mr. Hackney often serves as a conference panelist at entrepreneur and industry conferences, and as a judge for industry awards such as the Excellence in Business Information award, the RealWare Data Warehousing award and the Industry Solution for Data Warehousing Award.
 

Mr. Hackney is a founding board member of the International Data Warehouse Association. Mr. Hackney has served on corporate for- and non-profit boards of directors, including California Arts Advocates, the non-profit statewide Arts lobbying organization for America’s most populous state and the world’s seventh largest economy.
 

Mr. Hackney has been a regular lecturer in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management and the University of Southern California (USC) Marshall School of Business.
 

Mr. Hackney founded the BI Alliance, a marketing and resource-sharing consortium of the BI market’s thought and implementation leaders. The BI Alliance formed a first of its kind offering of leading experts on meta data, data mining, advanced analytics, logical modeling, life-cycle services, human resources, information quality, etc. in a common framework.

 

Mr. Hackney has over 20 years of experience in business management and designing and implementing business intelligence solutions for Global 2000 organizations. He offers clients practical knowledge of the challenges and critical success factors involved in building and managing data warehouses across a variety of industries and business applications. His approach is distinguished by his ability to discover and understand the business needs of the organization, then answer those needs with information technology solutions.
 

Mr. Hackney's vast background in business operations, coupled with his years of working "in the trenches" with business intelligence implementers, enables him to speak the language of both business management and the technical community. He communicates effectively throughout the organization, from the executive level (CEO, COO, CFO) to business managers (VPs of sales and marketing) to the information technology organization (CIOs, IS managers, DBAs and data warehouse managers). This unique ability to gain a multi-faceted organizational perspective, and to effectively merge its various needs and interests, is one of the keys to Mr. Hackney’s high rate of success in BI projects.

 

Mr. Hackney uses a mentoring approach in his client relationships, guiding the organization from the initial development phase of a project through to full implementation. By transferring the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful BI project, he empowers clients to continue evolving the warehouse with the same success as if he were involved each step of the way.
 

Prior to founding Enterprise Group Ltd., Mr. Hackney was the owner and president of Digital Video, Inc., where he developed and marketed technology and services for real-time, full color, high-resolution computer graphics production and display. His services included video graphics production, video animation, special effects and electronic speaker support for clients such as Coca-Cola, Eli Lilly, IBM, McDonald's, Sears, and numerous others in a variety of industries. His interaction with marketing and sales executives from top U.S. corporations provided him with a keen understanding of their interests and concerns.
 

Previously, Mr. Hackney held the roles of president, general manager and production manager for several media production and digital imaging companies. In these capacities, he was involved in many successful product launches and was responsible for communicating and implementing sales and marketing programs. Through this experience, he gained valuable knowledge and insight into the business operations, sales, marketing and production areas of an organization and the factors involved in their success.
